2 reviews for The Gingerbread Man

  1. Mrs Victoria O’Brien, Headmistress

Children at Rolfe’s Nursery School thoroughly enjoyed the Sidlawhare version of The Gingerbread Man and the presentation was perfect for our weekly school assemblies. We certainly plan to purchase future Sidlawhare publications in the future.

  2. Natasha Hallam, Speech and language therapist, Smalltalk (slt)

I thoroughly enjoy using the gingerbread man story with the children I work with. As an SLT I use signing on a daily basis with a variety of children including those with ASD, language disorder and those with typical development. Kamishibai is such a fantastic context to use.

Before I was constantly struggling to both sign and hold the book up at the same time, but using the stand with the picture cards makes signing the story seamless and keeps the children fully engaged in the activity.

I find for me it works better if I have the picture in front of me after I have used it so I can read the words on the back for the next picture.
The language in the story itself has been cleverly written so it is both repetitive and rhyming, which I feel is very effective in supporting children to develop language. The kamishibai set is a staple activity in my SLT resources and I’m looking forward to new stories being published.
